Excellent songwriting, warm vocals and groovin’ guitarwork: Gerry combines them all in a performance that is as rich in humour and storytelling as it is in music. It is always a pleasure to have him in our neck of the woods.

Warm and intimate presentation: down to earth songwriting and wonderful mix of hot guitar licks and harmonica. Gerry has a talent for weaving tales and music, whether he is in front of a livingroom full of people with an acoustic guitar or with a full house in a concert setting. His storytelling and personal connection with the audience made for a fantastic evening. We look forward to Gerry passing through town again.

Lyrics that touch your heart, stories that make you laugh, and an evening that fills up your spirit as you and your neighbours enjoy a coming together in a relaxing spot. If I counted the warm memories that gathered on my patio the night that Gerry played,I would need a calculator. This was a great intro into the once myterious world of house concerts, made easier because of this vibrant performer

Just saw a musician,Gerry Barnum,at a recent house concert in Nelson. Very enjoyable and entertaining.Wonderful fingerstyle guitarist, sings with warmth and conviction, and adds humour and wit for an enjoyable audience experience. I heartily recommend him for any gig he may apply for,and add that he’d be more than welcome in my livingroom. Dan Obrodovic

An evening with Gerry Barnum is a warm and memorable music experience. Gerry’s songs have a solid presence and evoke feelings of familiarity and regard for the humaness in us all.His voice and guitar come together in an energetic blend which resonates with balance and clarity, right down to the last note. His confident stage presence and comfortable rapport with the audience leaves you feeling like you’ve spent the evening sharing music and stories with an old frend.

Hey Gerry. You taught me guitar at Woodwinds Secondary School. I was the girl! I never knew you had CD’s and did concerts. I Listened to your music. You’re great!

Hi Gerry. I hadn’t been familiar with your music until I attended the recent concert you gave at the Victoria Folk Music Society. I found your perfoirmance of your songs immpassioned and inspired, as well as inspiring. So much so that before I left the hall,I bought both your albums with a view to more fully appreciating your slide blues technique in open D tuning. Thanks again and let’s hear more from you.

Hello Gerry! Just thought I’d let you know I’m really diggin’ your new CD. Neat to hear a different guitar sound(re: your new Harmony)…While on one hand, what could sound better than the Gibson, I can sure sense a new direction in both your new guitar sound as well as what you are saying in the new songs!…and I really, really like it! Congrats on a great new CD’ Harmony.
p.s. I still have to mail you your Elvis pose photo from Shaw studio last April

Hi Gerry…I met you recently(I’m a NEW fan )…enjoyed your CD…though I didn’t think it really did you justice(would rather see you LIVE!)… Anyway, would appreciate being kept up to date on your new CD and also if you’re playing around this area.

I saw your show last night in Prince George and loved it. You strung together three songs that blew me away; My Hometown foollowed by a Sonny Terry number and then the monologue about the corduroy pants and the song about getting behind the wheel for the first time. I grew up in Toronto and consider it my “Hometown”-my Dad still lives in the same house but your song made me sadly realize that someday when I walk that old neighbourhood he and perhaps his house will no longer be there. I must savour the moments I have with him. Keep up the good work.

Hi Gerry! Great to find out you have a website. Hopefully you’ll post the progress of any and all upcoming fests. Many congrats on your star performance alongside Al Pacino. It was the best part of that movie.

I loved the show last night! Sorry, the sterotypical screaming fan…Your style is so unique to the character I saw onstage as the strings rang and your harmonica sang with a voice all it’s own. (and I have to compliment you on your voice as well)What I heard wasn’t the empty subliminal trash that’s blaring on the radio everyday. It came from you and your style and left me wanting more. I hope to see you in town again, and good luck with everything ahead of you.

Hey Gerry. Hope you remember meeting us. Your CD has played over and over since we got home from our Island trip! Your music is fantastic…our 21 year old son loves it too! (wishing we had a few extra hundred thousand dollars laying around so we could promote you big time)… it’s so full…both the lyrics and the music. You have a great gift; thanks for sharing your time and your music with us.

This is just to let you know how much I enjoyed your music at the Gabriola Coffehouse. It was worth the soaking we got, both going from and returning to the ferry. Keep up the excellent work. You are bringing a lot of joy to people during these worrying times.

Hi Gerry. I caught your concert at the Artspace in Prince George a while ago. I would like to say that I really enjoyed your music.I’ve never really seen an acoustic performance like that before and I thought it was a good blend of styles.I particularly liked the one with the French name. I went straight home and tried to play the blues on my acoustic. Unfortunately I suck but you did give me some inspiration….anyway.thanks for the show

Reviews

"What I like about Gerry is his ability to draw on music from the past and present it in a new way. He strikes me as a kind of guy who's got his finger on the pulse, not of music megalomania, but the other one pumping the music through his veins. He digs in rhythmically and competently on his acoustic guitar and he puts emotion and guts behind his voice. Quite simply he lets it go and gives in to his music."

David Horsley
Good Vibes

"His voice is strong and soulful - melodic and accurate - without too much of the rasp which many blues singers rely on to make their point. Gerry's harp playin' is sweet and mournful; his guitar playing brilliantly constructed, very percussive on the rhythm and imaginative in the solos. "
